HID will unveil HID Amico™ biometric facial recognition readers and the new portable OMNIKEY® SE Plug authentication reader at the 2025 Security and Exhibition Conference in Sydney on August 27. The newly launched FIDO-enabled cards and Mercury Intelligent controllers will also be showcased at the event.

Steve Katanas, Head of ANZ, Physical Access Control Solutions at HID, said: “HID is developing and showcasing scalable technologies that meet the needs of today’s highly mobile workforce. HID technology enables people to seamlessly and securely move between physical and digital places to enhance workplace efficiencies and improve productivity across both worlds. We are proud to present the latest in product innovations that will future-proof workplace security at this year’s Security ASIAL conference. We also look forward to demonstrating the future of access control and trusted identity solutions to the Australian security community.”

Innovations that will be showcased by HID at the 2025 Security and Exhibition Conference include:

HID Amico – an advanced biometric facial recognition reader designed to address the growing demand for secure, seamless and contactless access. It enables faster and more accurate facial recognition, minimising delays with false rejections.

HID Amico provides advanced levels of security that reduce unauthorised access risks and give real-time identity verification across diverse high traffic environments and locations that need seamless access with less intervention such as healthcare facilities, data centres, government offices and corporate environments.

The new product also includes numerous multifactor authentication methods – face, HID Mobile Access® and wallet credentials, RFID access cards, QR code and PIN – so that users can select the most convenient way to securely access spaces.

OMNIKEY SE Plug is a portable reader that addresses the increasing need for on-the-go authentication to workplace workstations and systems for employees. The OMNIKEY SE Plug is ideal for remote work or travel where employees need secure access. It supports FIDO2 and multi-factor authentication leveraging public key cryptography to prevent phishing and credential theft. Its cable-free design paired with plug-and-play functionality deliver convenient multi-device compatibility – working with smartphones, tablets and laptops – to ensure users are productive anytime, from anywhere.

This reader will prove invaluable in day-to-day operations across most industries with professionals on the move, such as healthcare (e.g. secure access to electronic medical records), emergency services, retail and logistics, professional services or government agencies.

It also has the potential to deliver passwordless authentication to several applications where remote access is needed, such as aid natural disaster response by enabling emergency services employees to quickly access highly secured centralised systems remotely.

FIDO and FIDO-Enabled Cards deliver phishing-resistant authentication with enterprise-grade lifecycle management, making scalable passwordless security accessible to organisations of all sizes.

Organisations struggling with the inefficiencies and complexity of managing physical and logical access separately can now address these challenges with HID’s one-card solution that combines its robust physical access control portfolio with FIDO-based, passwordless access to both physical spaces and business applications. This unified approach streamlines deployment and management, driving higher workforce productivity and operational simplicity.

Mercury MP Intelligent Controllers enable greater interoperability of secure access technologies by seamlessly integrating controllers, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, elevators, readers and other physical access systems.

The Mercury embedded application environment, which is a new addition to the controller platform, delivers unmatched flexibility as it supports third party application integration and allows custom business logic to run directly on the controller. Instead of just linking to a reader, Mercury controllers act as a nexus to integrate multiple systems and devices for broader functionality and stronger performance.
