Applications have opened for the 2025 Spitfire Memorial Defence Fellowship funding, with the Spitfire Association looking for innovators and researchers who will make a significant contribution to Australia’s defence research and prototyping landscape.
The 2025 Fellowship recipient will receive up to AUD60,000 to drive advances in Australia’s sovereign capabilities.
“We believe that by partnering with leading innovators and researchers across Australia, we can collectively advance the frontiers of defence research and contribute to enhancing national security and global stability,” said Spitfire Association President Geoff Zuber.
The award is named in honour of the Spitfire aircraft and the pilots of 457 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force. The Fellowship aims to nurture emerging talent and make a measurable difference to Australia’s defence.
To date, the Spitfire Memorial Defence Fellowship has funded research into hypersonics, uncrewed drones, cybersecurity, and the impacts of physiology on the performance of defence personnel, amongst other innovations.
Applications close on October 13, 2024, and late applications will not be accepted. The recipient must complete the project by the end of 2025.
