John Gellel is the new President of the Australian Security Industry Association Limited after a convincing win in the recent Board elections.

The former ASIAL Vice-President is joined by five of his colleagues from the previous Board including Rachaell Saunders who has been elected as the new Vice-President.

The election, conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission was delayed due to COVID, but drew a record number of voters – about double the voter turn-out typically seen in ASIAL elections. The election featured the highest number of candidates for all positions, reflecting the strong health and standing of the Association.

New President John Gellel said the result overwhelmingly endorses the vision and plan articulated by the Association. “The numbers confirm that members clearly endorse the strategic vision laid out by the Board over past years. What our members want is leadership and unity and a clear vision that delivers better results and a solid future for our industry.”

The new Board includes Rachaell Saunders (Vice-President), Kevin McDonald (former President), Brian Foster, Fred Khoury, Mike Smith, Tamara Bayly and Mark Guiney.

John Gellel said that the job now is to continue with the Board’s strategic plan. “We can now proceed to deliver on the vision that members have told us they want. This has already started, the next major event will be the Security 2021 Exhibition and Conference at which the Horizon 2025 Report will be launched, in which we take an analytical look at how security companies can equip and prepare themselves to meet the challenges of the next few years. We will continue to look at new strategies as well, which deliver deeper member engagement, strengthen our connection with key stakeholders and equip new entrants into the industry for a long career.” “I would like to acknowledge the contribution outgoing President Kevin McDonald has made over many years to the association and our industry as a whole.

Furthermore, I would also like to thank outgoing Director Suzette Po Williams for her commitment to the Association and look forward to her continued involvement” Gellel said. “There are many challenges and exciting opportunities ahead for our industry, I look forward to the industry working together to bring about positive change.
