NSW Government Grants Program to Tackle Young Extremists

0

The New South Wales Government has launched a new AUD400,000 grants program to strengthen youth resilience to violent extremism. The initiative will boost community-based efforts that support young people who are vulnerable to violent extremism.

The initiative is part of the Government’s Countering Violent Extremism program, which received an AUD55 million boost over the next four years in the 2024 Budget.

The NSW Government is committed to building the resilience of communities to all forms of violent extremism and works in partnership with communities, education providers, non-government organisations, academia, and the private sector to deliver a whole of society approach to addressing violent extremism.

The initiative will offer two one-off grants of up to AUD200,000 each for community-led programs that;

  • Provide mentoring activities for young men that promote healthy relationships, mutual respect, and civic participation;
  • Build resilience to hateful and extremist influences both online and offline;
  • Offer mentor training to better equip community leaders in engaging and supporting at-risk youth; and
  • Establish referral pathways to government and community support services.

Applications are now open until 11:59 p.m., April 11, 2025.
