Report reveals cost reduction is driving Australian organisations to the cloud

centurylinkimgA recent report from CenturyLink, the Asia Pacific Hybrid IT Readiness Report, has shown that hybrid IT is fast becoming the IT infrastructure of choice for organisations in Australia as they move towards a blend of in-house and third-party services for datacentre, network, security, and applications services.

This is despite the fact that 30 per cent of organisations across the globe have heard the term but are not sure if they understand it correctly.

A big part of moving to a complete hybrid IT environment is cloud adoption.

According to the report: “The advantages and benefits of adopting a cloud-based infrastructure are compelling. Moreover, in the backdrop of extensive marketing efforts by cloud vendors, enterprises globally are increasingly becoming aware of the same. Whilst enterprises are working towards developing a sound information technology (IT) transformation strategy, the benefits of both private and public cloud deployment models necessitate implementation and management of a Hybrid environment that offers an optimal way of managing workloads.”

In Australia the survey revealed that the main drivers for cloud deployment are cost reduction (73%), security (66%) and service delivery improvement (63%) while the main challenges are security (73%), losing control over data (58%) and uptime issues/outages from cloud providers (53%).

Stuart Mills, regional director – Australia and New Zealand, CenturyLink, said, “The mix off on-premise, off-premise, managed and outsourced workloads differs for every organisation depending on their requirements. Hybrid IT provides the optimal deployment model that covers the right mix of private cloud, public cloud and traditional IT infrastructure, making it a unique solution to address the needs of today’s organisations.

“Organisations looking to hybrid IT need to choose a partner with the right credentials that can deliver on its promise by providing services that meet KPIs when it comes to pricing, performance, availability, and service delivery.”
